bitter, sour,cold and slightly toxic

性寒。味苦，酸。有小毒。

Actions & Indications:

主 治 ﹕

For internal use it is similar to da huang: nose bleeding, functional bleeding of the uterus, purpura due to thrombocytopenia, chronic hepatitis, inflammation of the anus, constipation. Fresh squeezed juice is effective for fungus infection of skin, hemorrhoids, inflammation of the mammary glands, and eczema. Taken internally causes diarrhea. 

Do not substitute yang ti with da huang for external use.

鼻出血，功能性子宮出血，血小板減少性紫癜，慢性肝炎，肛門周圍炎，大便秘結, 內服可致腹瀉。外用治外痔，急性乳腺炎，黃水瘡，癤腫，皮癬。

外用不能用大黃代替。

To take internally:12 to 19 grams. External use: no limit

口 服 ﹕ 12 ~ 19 克 。 外 用 適 量 。

Chemical ingredients:

Roots (根):  

1. frangula emodin,  {chrysophanol [C₁₅H₁₀O₄(大黃酚)]，(Chrysophanic acid,) (大黃根酸), emodin，C₁₅H₁₀O₅(大黃素 ),}

2. emodin-monomethylether (大黃素甲醚 ),

3. sugar (糖類),

4. pigments (色素),

5. resin (樹脂),

6. organic acid (有機酸),

7. starch (澱粉),

8. mucilage (粘液質),

9. tannin (鞣質),

10. calcium oxalate (草酸鈣),

11. nepodir or musizin ( 酸模素 ), a very strong anti fungal compound.

Leaves (葉):

1. quercitrin (槲皮苷)。

酸模素為2-乙醯基-1,8二羥基-3-甲基-萘。具有很強的抗真菌作用。

Sample of formula:

處 方 舉 例 ﹕

1. yang ti 8 g, sheng gan cao 3 g, water 300 cc. Boil down to 150 cc. Taken orally for constipation.

2.  yeast infection formula

1. 便 秘 ﹕羊 蹄 8 克 , 生 甘 草  3 克 。 加 水 300 cc. 煎 至 150 cc. 溫 服 。
