for internal use in decoction: 15 to 60 g. Mostly raw (not calcined) and smashed.

Boil before other herbs.  It can also be used in powder form or in pill form.

內 服 ： 常 用 量 15 - 60 克 。 多 生 用 。 須 打 碎 先 煎 。 或 入 丸 、 散 。

Samples of formulae

:處方舉例﹕

Formulae: da qing long tang, bai hu ren shen tang, shi gao zhi mu tang, qing wen

bai du yin, ma xing gan shi tang.

For burns and eczema: duan shi gao (calcined) ,  huang bai. Make into powder

and apply to affected areas.

For acute infection with high fever, nose bleeding, loss of consciousness,

and rash: sheng shi gao, xi jiao (or substitute with water buffalo horn). Make into decoction.

大青龍湯，白虎加人參湯，白虎湯，石膏知母湯，清瘟敗毒飲，麻杏甘石湯。

1. 燒傷或濕瘡 ﹕鍛石膏﹐ 黃柏 為末﹐ 敷於患處。

2. 突患感染﹐ 高熱﹐ 鼻血﹐ 失知覺﹐ 皮膚發疹﹕ 生石膏﹐ 犀角 (或用水牛角代替)。

3. 水煎服。

Toxicity & Cautions:

毒素與禁忌﹕

Not to use in cases of pixu (spleen deficient)  or xue xu (blood deficient) or sickness is

on the surface (like cold or flu). Use care in cases of fever due to yinxu (yin deficient)  .

Not to use with tetracyclnes type of drugs because the reaction of calcium may cause the

drugs to become ineffective. Also, not to use with digitalis type of drugs because the

calcium ions may increase the toxicity of the drug and may cause arrhythmia conductivity

of signals.

脾虛 或 血虛 及 病 在 表 者 禁 用 。陰 虛 發熱者小心服用。

石膏不可與四環素類藥 物 ( Tetracyclines ) 同用因為石膏含 有 硫 酸 鈣 ， 鈣 離 子 與 四 環 素 類 結 合 後 ， 會 形 成 難 以 吸 收 的 結 合 物 ，

從 而 令 藥 物 失 效 。

石膏不可與洋 地 黃 類 藥 合 用 ， 因 為 含 大 量 鈣 離 子 ， 合 用 後 毒 性

會 增 強 而 導 致 心 律 失 常 和 傳 導 阻 滯 。
