Administration of tinctures of this herb can lead to severe itching, stomachache, or reduced appetite.

While taking dan shen do not use soy milk or soy product because milk or soy product can lower the effectiveness of dan shen. Do not use with blood thinning drugs, like warfarin, heparin etc.

The active ingredient, tanshinone, can combine with soy product and form insoluble substance, thus lessen the effectiveness of blood thinning, pain arresting.
